WPML is the plugin we use to run a multilingual WordPress site: one site, every page and post available in several languages, with the right URL structure and SEO signals for each. We use it to translate pages, posts, menus, and the strings buried in themes and plugins, then keep all of it in sync as the site changes. The result is a site that reads as native in each language and gets indexed correctly by search engines.
How we approach it
- Pick the URL structure (subdirectory per language is the usual choice) and set hreflang so each language version points at its counterparts.
- Translate the content that matters first: core pages, money pages, and the article library, rather than everything at once.
- Translate theme and plugin strings, menus, and forms, so there are no stray English labels left in a French or Chinese page.
- Run translations against a glossary so product names and technical terms stay consistent across hundreds of pages.
We do this work at scale. For a B2B distributor we work with, we translated a full catalog and a large article library into Chinese with a glossary, which is exactly the kind of job WPML is built for: a lot of content, a lot of repeated terminology, and a need for it to stay correct over time.
WPML is the right call when the site lives on WordPress and you want translations managed inside the same site rather than copies you maintain by hand. We will set it up so adding a language later is a normal task, not a rebuild.
